Allied Groups

The community-based management groups listed on this page existed before Penobscot East Resource Center. We often work closely with these independent organizations—providing support, guidance and assistance when needed.

In 1999, the Deer Isle-Stonington Shellfish Committee led the towns of Deer Isle and Stonington in adopting an ordinance limiting commercial clam licenses principally to island residents.

The committee works with the state to manage the island’s clam resource at a local level. Committee members also volunteer many hours to the conservation of the resource, re-seeding clam flats and cleaning beaches.
