Markets and Economic Development

Through partnerships with like-minded organizations that share our goals, our marketing and economic development efforts are evolving from the various programs designed to fulfill our mission to secure a future for eastern Maine fishing communities. Our aim is to create economic initiatives and develop local markets that will respond to immediate and anticipated community needs. These will:

  • Support marine habitat conservation

  • Provide fresh top-quality local seafood to local consumers

  • Drive economic development in eastern Maine

and we are accomplishing this with a range of activities and novel programs:

  • Creating a Community Supported Fisheries (CSF) marketing model for the first time in our geographical area.

  • Innovating a community lobster sale program.

  • Participating in the Stonington Lobster Working Group.

  • Partnering with the Stonington Lobster Coop in the COMMUNITY FISH project.

  • Introducing a cutting-edge research project to design a fuel-efficient lobster boat.
