Stonington Lobster Working GroupThe group was formed in the fall of 2008 as a sub-committee of the Stonington Economic Development Committee and through the efforts of Penobscot East Resource Center. Its purpose is to provide support to the lobster industry in Stonington and Deer Isle. The 2010 SLWG chair is Robin Alden, Penobscot East's director. Through local efforts, the group focuses on strategies which will increase boat prices for local lobstermen. In spring 2010 the SLWG coordinated a visit to Stonington from Kristen Bailey the principal investigator for of the Governor's Task Force on the Economic Sustainability of Maine's Lobster. She discussed ways to increase the value of the town's lobster catch. |
